The Mosque is named after the founder and first president of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who spearheaded the project. It is located on the main island of Abu Dhabi, next to the Emirates Palace hotel. The Mosque was built with materials from all over the world, including marble from Italy and Greece, granite from China, and crystals from Swarovski. It cost an estimated US$627 million to build.
