Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is a grand event planned in early 2007 to house Formula 1 races attracting tourists and professional teams to compete for Global dominance. The event however was inaugurated as late as 2009. Abu Dhabi houses the all-famous Yas Marina Circuit possesses a mesmerizing experience of day-night races.

The track was initially opted to replace the Canadian and the French Grand Prix and was signed to host the event till 2016. Notwithstanding, the event had been held each year until 2021 when it was decided to exceed the partnership entitlement for Yas Marina Circuit later till 2030. Therefore, the Yas Marina circuit has decided to hold the final race of the F1 season for the next decade.

About the Event

The Formula 1 group conducts a series of races Worldwide, known as Grands Prix. The season consists of different races in open wheel, single seat category in which both the teams and drivers compete for Global position. The event consists of a points system used to determine championships for both the drivers and teams, respectively. 

The circuits often chosen for any particular event can be both purpose-built circuits or closed public roads (such as Singapore Grand Prix). The races were initially termed the Grand Prize event that evolved into what is now known as the Grand Prix. 

The Federation was initially founded in 1950 and since then it has been conducting international races amongst 10 teams and 20 drivers, overall.

History of Teams

The event has seen numerous changes over the period, be it a change in the overall rules of the race or most of the compliance strategies forcing a few teams to drop out for good. In 2008-2009, teams such as Honda, Toyota, and BMW withdrew from Formula 1 racing. The remaining teams have ever since been participating for their Global dominance.

The Drag Reduction System was introduced within F1 in 2011. The system works by aiming at reducing drag and helping the driver overtake its opponent on the track. The driver is signaled to activate their DRS after crossing the detection point of the track given that the pursuing driver is a second away from their opponent.

The safety car concept is a distinctive feature within the race that follows after a crash or potential safety hazards. Different types of flags are used such as Green, Yellow, and Red to signal drivers about changes within the track. The Red signals a total halt to the race, yellow means that the safety car has been deployed after a minor crash and the green flag follows the Go signal.

Qualifying and Rules

The Qualifying round in F1 is used to determine the Grid positions in the actual race. However, the qualifying round is different from practice sessions as the drivers who score the shortest lap times will be positioned the latest on the grid of the actual race.

Rules often fluctuate within this sport, ranging from refueling facility on track to eliminating such a facility, from High displacement natural aspirated V8 and V12 engines to the Hybrid 3 cylinder lower displacement era, from being able to change tires as per the strategy to not being able to change 13 sets of dry tires, 4 sets of intermediate tires and 3 sets of wet weather tires.
